The photo itself, restored
No art style at all. We sharpen the photo, fix the light and color, and size it for print. A good choice for an older photo you want to keep exactly as it is.
Working from an old photo
Often the only photo is a print in an album or a frame. That's fine. A clear phone picture of it is all you need.
Take it out of the frame
Glass causes glare and reflections. Lay the print flat on a table instead.
Use soft daylight
Near a window, without direct sun or the flash. Shadows from your phone or hand show up in the scan.
Shoot straight on
Hold the phone flat above the photo so the edges look square, then crop to the person or pet.
Group photo? Choose the one where their face is largest and clearest. Faces that are small in the photo come out with less detail.
Add a name and dates
The Name & date add-on ($9) prints a short line in a band along the bottom of the portrait, up to 32 characters. For example:

You type it before checkout and see it on the preview. Every canvas also comes with the high-res digital file, so the family can print copies or share it.

What if the photo is blurry or very old?
Try it. The preview is free, so you can see how it looks before deciding. With the Original photo option, the site also tells you which sizes will print sharply from that photo.
Can two people be in one memorial portrait?
Yes, if they're together in the same photo with both faces clear.
Is my photo kept private?
Yes. We use it only to make the portrait. Photos and previews you don't buy are deleted within 7 days. See the privacy policy.
What if it arrives damaged?
Email us within 30 days with a photo and we'll send a free replacement or a full refund. See the refund and shipping policy.
